Perspectives from the Field

We would like to invite you to join a group of international Peace Activists, Fieldworkers and Academics to reflect, retreat, reunite and reinvigorate yourselves during a 4-day conference/camping event being held at Big Bear Horse Farm in Pine Mountain, Georgia from Thursday, March 30th to Sunday, April, 2nd, 2006.

Given the challenges we face and share, we recognized the need to gather, share and organize our ideas and experiences. This event provides a context to do just that and to simultaneously learn more about an area of the United States and a culture that has historically presented and continues to present many peace–related challenges.

This will be achieved through forums for reflective and progressive discussions, both among our international collective and with the local community. Informal evening events and gatherings and the overall camping experience will provide opportunities for further exchange. In order to design the best program possible, however, we need your interests and proposals to form the content and intention of our camp. This camp is structured as a conference, in that participant interests, strengths, and resources make-up the content of discussions via presentations. You have a much better idea of what you need and what you would like a gathering of this nature to include, so let us know!

Please submit a proposal/statement of interest and/or any inquiries by email to:
jeffrey.vincent@peaceinaction.net no later than January 31, 2006. Please send a letter of approximately 150 words detailing your interests and/or a proposal to present a specific topic and facilitate a discussion.

Important information:

A Wireless Camp – there will be access to email and telephone outside of scheduled sessions, however the camp setting is not conducive to electronic aides.
Camp Accommodations (Room & Board) – Accommodations will consist of sleeping in tents and sleeping bags on a serene horse farm located in rural small town GA (toilets and showers are available) and prepared meals; a few fun extras will also be included. The cost of the event is $150/boarding per participant and includes a $25 non-refundable deposit. All meals will have vegetarian options and we will purchase as much as possible from local organic farms and farmers’ market.
Camp Size – the camp is limited to 15-20 participants (reserve soon as spots will fill up fast!), as well as local community members, who will take part in specially scheduled sessions and certain camp activities.
Sign-up – Please print out and send a release form and a $25 check or money order made out to Kim Coviello (706) 845-9519: 106 Kildare Ct., LaGrange, GA (USA) 30240, by January 31st.

Once you have signed up and paid your deposit, you will be sent a “Participant Packet” with all the details.

We look forward to hearing from you all soon and collecting your ideas and proposals. We anticipate that Pine Mountain “Peace Meets” will be a valuable and fun experience for us all!

The Coordinating Team
(Kim Coviello & Jeffrey Vincent)
